Match capacity
to the workload.

Move the sliders to see how many identical servers would be needed in a simplified capacity model.

Illustrative values only. Real capacity depends on the application, hardware, latency targets, and other bottlenecks.

Calculated capacity3

servers required

Unused capacity: 100 requests per second.

What the model assumes

Requests are spread evenly between identical servers. Each server has a fixed capacity, and there is no redundancy margin or other bottleneck.

Servers = round up (demand ÷ capacity per server)

Increasing the server count represents horizontal scaling. Changing capacity per server illustrates vertical scaling. A real elastic system would monitor demand and adjust resources automatically; this activity is only a browser-based model.
